Use your head – wear a helmet!
Common sense tells us that wearing a helmet while skiing can prevent injury. For instance, a frequent ski injury is a scalp laceration after coming into contact with a chairlift, a ski edge, or a rock. ALL of these injuries could be avoided if a helmet had been worn. However the main head injury sustained during skiing is from blunt trauma, causing Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI), ranging from mild concussion to severe bleeding on the brain. Ski helmets are not so effective at preventing these injuries, simply because they are not designed to be.
