MPI Brokers back in Flaine to sponsor British Schoolgirls’ Races

Ski and travel insurance specialist MPI Brokers and its sister company Mind The Gap Year are back at Flaine in the French Alps this week for the companies’ sixth successive sponsorship of the annual British Schoolgirls’ Races (BSR), run by the Ladies’ Ski Club.

The five-day event sees more than 50 teams of three skiers – who may be classed Under 14, Under 16, Under 18 or Under 21 – competing in various slalom events on the Flaine pistes.

MPI Brokers Managing Director Michael Pettifer says BSR is a showcase of up-and-coming British skiing talent. “Many of the participants are already competent skiersand beyond the excitement of inter-school rivalry, these races can be a stepping stone to more serious competition – potentially even future Winter Olympics.”

A British ski instructor himself and a keen skier, Michael Pettifer has made insurance for skiers and young travellers the cornerstone of his business.

‘If skiers stay within the limits of their competence, skiing is generally a safe sport – but it does carry slightly more risk than many other outdoor leisure activities,” he says. “For this reason we have developed insurance products that give skiers peace of mind, enabling them to enjoy their time on the mountains to the full.”
